ASI P7 Digital Forensic Examiner (DFE)

ASI Description

Identifies personnel requiring qualification as a DFE who are authorized to perform forensic examinations of digital media and devices. Personnel with the DFE ASI will be certified and trained to conduct forensic examinations of digital media and testify as experts in forensic digital media analysis in a manner which would allow further prosecution in a court of law.

In addition to obtaining certifications in your field, advanced education is another way to enhance job performance.

Continuing Education

Enlisted Soldiers and Warrant Officers can review Associate and Bachelor degrees in their assigned military discipline, technical field, or leadership to assist in a clear pathway to completing a degree.

The ASIS International, Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification is for security management professionals who demonstrate knowledge and competency in all areas of security management. CPP candidates must have been employed full-time in a security-related role and meet education and/or experience requirements, which include at least three years of experience in responsible charge of a security function. Candidates must also pass a written exam.

The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc. (ISC 2), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) is an advanced skill level certification for experienced security practitioners, managers and executives interested in proving their knowledge across a wide array of security practices and principles. Candidates must have a minimum of five years cumulative paid work experience in two or more of the eight domains of the CISSP CBK. Earning a four-year college degree or regional equivalent or an additional credential from the (ISC)² approved list will satisfy one year of the required experience. Education credit will only satisfy one year of experience.

The ASIS International, Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) certification, is designed for security professionals whose primary responsibilities are to conduct investigations and who have demonstrated in-depth operational knowledge and competence. Candidates must not have been convicted of any criminal offense that would reflect negatively on the security profession, ASIS, and the PCI program. Candidates must meet experience and/or education requirements. Candidates must pass an examination.

Candidates must meet academic and experience requirements. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc. (ISC)², Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) is an intermediate skill level certification for individuals involved in network and systems security administration responsible for developing the information security policies, standards, and procedures. Candidates manage implementation across various hardware and software programs in their organization. The SSCP is targeted toward those working towards positions such as Network Security Engineers, Security Systems Analysts, or Security Administrators. It is also appropriate for personnel in other non-security disciplines that require an understanding of security but do not have information security as a primary part of their job description, including information systems auditors; application programmers; system, network and database administrators; business unit representatives, and systems analysts. Candidates must meet work experienve requirements to be eligible for the SSCP exam. Candidates must pass a written exam.

California Association of Licensed Investigators (CALI), Certified Professional Investigator (CPI), is a recognized symbol of excellence and achievement in the investigator and security professions. Candidates must be a licensed Private Investigator or the equivalent and have been licensed for a minimum of three consecutive years immediately preceding submitting an application. Candidates must pass a written exam.

International Association for Identification (IAI), Certified Crime Scene Investigator (CCSI) is aimed at the beginning crime scene investigator who responds to crime scenes as a portion of their full-time job duties by assisting in the basic methodology of completing a thorough crime scene investigation. Eligibility requirements for CCSI include formal education, technical training, experience, two letters of endorsement, and two references. Applicants must pass a written exam.

The International Association for Identification (IAI), Forensic Artist Certification is an intermediate level credential for professional forensic artists. Forensic artists include a variety of professions: composite artists, age progression artists, and facial reconstruction technicians, and others; it relies heavily on artistic abilities. The forensic artist’s primary tools are drawing, sculpting and digital imagery. Candidates for the IAI Forensic Artist Certification must meet educational, experiential, and training requirements, and must pass an evaluation by IAI.

The CyberSecurity Forensic Analyst (CSFA) is an advanced level certification for individuals who have the ability to conduct a thorough forensic analysis using sound examination and handling procedures, and are able to communicate the results of their analysis effectively. The CSFA certification is designed for professionals who already possess practical experience in the field of digital forensics. A minimum of at least two years of experience with both the technical and administrative aspects of conducting forensic analysis is required. To become CSFA certified, applicants must pass a written and practical exam, and complete an FBI criminal background check.

The International Association for Identification (IAI), Certified Crime Scene Analyst is a mid-level certification for crime investigative professionals. Crime Scene Analysts work under general supervision responding to crime scenes and perform a broad range of investigative tasks to document the crime scene including taking photographs, and recovering and processing evidence. A minimum of three years of experience in crime scene related activities is required. There are also minimum training and education requirements associated with this certification.

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification validates an individual's knowledge and experience in the safety profession. ASP certifies an individual's ability to perform at least 50% of professional-level safety duties in safety, health, environment, and ergonomics. Safety professionals are required to make worksite assessments to determine risks, potential hazards and controls, evaluate risks and hazard control measures for equipment, systems, facilities, and processes, investigate incidents, maintain and evaluate incident and loss records, and prepare emergency response plans. ASP candidates must meet a combination of education and experience requirements. Candidates must take a written exam.

The Defense Intelligence Agency PMO (DIA), Certified Defense All-Source Analysis - I (CDASA-I) is an intermediate level credential designed as part of an effort to professionalize the military and civilian Defense Department intelligence workforce. CDASA-1s must demonstrate knowledge and ability in All-Source Analysis skills and maintain their analytic abilities through continuing education. These skills ensure an integrated, agile intelligence force that can support departmental requirements in an ever-changing environment. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The Defense Intelligence Agency PMO (DIA), Joint Intelligence Planner-Proficiency Level I (JIP-I) is part of the DoD-wide initiative to professionalize the intelligence workforce directed by the USD(I). JIP-I was created to develop, define, and measure broad-based core competencies for joint IP professionals across the Defense Intelligence Enterprise (DIE). JIP-I certification covers both Foundational and Full Performance execution of IP and ensures all joint intelligence planners understand the core concepts of IP and how they support Joint Operations Planning (JOP) and the planning of intelligence operations. Candidates must have at least 18 months of Intelligence Planning Experience performed within the last three years and must currently hold an active TOP SECRET/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance and be in 'good standing' as defined by their employing Component.

May be difficult to attain: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement is a Bachelor's degree, and/or minimum experience is 10 or more years.
