MOS 89D Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist

MOS Description

Locates, identifies, renders safe, and disposes of foreign and domestic conventional, chemical, or nuclear ordnance and improved explosive devices (IED); supports VIP missions for the U.S. Secret Service, State Department, and other Federal agencies. CSP candidates must meet experiential requirements that relate to the field of workplace safety. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM), Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM) certification demonstrates a professional's ability to handle, manage, or advise others on hazardous materials in a safe and compliant manner. A CHMM may work for a corporation, business, government, or in a related field associated with hazardous materials such as environmental protection, safety, hazmat transportation, or security.  Candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and four years of relevant work experience.  Candidates must also pass a written exam.

The American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT), Industrial Radiography Radiation Safety Personnel – X-Ray and RAM (IRSSP-Combo) certification is for individuals who perform or supervise industrial radiography utilizing radiation-producing equipment. Candidates must meet the ASNT IRRSP training and experience requirements. Candidates must pass the written and practical exams.

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification validates an individual's knowledge and experience in the safety profession. ASP certifies an individual's ability to perform at least 50% of professional-level safety duties in safety, health, environment, and ergonomics. Safety professionals are required to make worksite assessments to determine risks, potential hazards and controls, evaluate risks and hazard control measures for equipment, systems, facilities, and processes, investigate incidents, maintain and evaluate incident and loss records, and prepare emergency response plans. ASP candidates must meet a combination of education and experience requirements. Candidates must take a written exam.

The Certifying Technical Employee Competence (CertTEC), Basic Electricity and Electronics - Alternating Current (BEE-AC) certification is an entry-level credential designed for technicians in the electricity and electronics field. The BEE-AC certification validates a professional's knowledge of various AC theories, equipment, math, cabling, and other related subjects. Applicants must meet training, experience, or education requirements. Any active or veteran military personnel whose rating or assignment is/was in the appropriate field are eligible for the BEE-AC exam. Applicants must pass a written exam.

The Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM), Certified Dangerous Goods Professional (CDGP) is an advanced certification that recognizes expertise in dealing with the safe, secure, and compliant transportation of dangerous goods internationally under the model regulations published by the United Nations, International Maritime Organization, International Civil Aviation Organization, and International Air Transport Association. The CDGP is an unbiased verification that a company employs a global expert that can help the employer demonstrate to suppliers, customers, and enforcement agencies that they excel at regulatory compliance and safety. Applicants must have five years of relevant experience and pass a written exam.

Candidates must pass a written examination testing their knowledge of soldering, desoldering, tools, electrical conductors, AC power distribution, circuit protection, circuit controls, generators, motors, interfacing of electronics products, and technician work procedures. The EM5 credential is one in a group of five credential modules; once a technician attains all five credentials, ETA will issue the Associate CET certification.

Low

May be difficult to attain: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement is a Bachelor's degree, and/or minimum experience is 10 or more years.
