The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), Rigger I certification validates a rigger’s skill and ability to handle and move loads. The Rigger Level I is qualified in a trade or craft and may hold a title as iron worker, millwright, mechanic, electrician, mason, laborer, longshoreman, boilermaker, lineman or pipe fitter. There are no prerequisites for this certification, but crane operators must be at least 18 years of age, and abide by NCCCO’s substance abuse policy and code of ethics. Candidates must pass a practical exam and a written exam.

The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), Signalperson certification is for candidates who use hand and voice signals in crane operation. Candidates must possess basic knowledge of crane operations, situational awareness and understand safety standards and regulations. Candidates must pass a written and practical exam.

The Crane Institute of America Certification (CIC), Rigger/Signalperson Certification covers the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) definition of "qualified rigger." Rigger/Signalperson candidates must have at least one year of safe rigging and signaling experience, meet physical qualification requirements, and comply with the CIC Code of Ethics and Substance Abuse Policy. Candidates must also pass both a written exam and a practical hand signal exam.

Renewal Period: 5 years

The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), Rigger II certification validates a rigger’s skill and ability to handle and move loads. The certification level is based upon the rigger’s training, understanding, skills, and abilities in the areas of selection, inspection, and use of rigging equipment. The Rigger Level I certification is a prerequisite for this certification. Level I riggers performs basic, repetitive rigging tasks when the weight, center of gravity, rigging and rigging configuration are known. The Certified Rigger Level II can use rigging capacity to select rigging components and methods. Unsupervised, a Rigger Level II can: estimate load weight and center of gravity, identify lift points, determine and choose rigging based on loading, conduct pre-use inspection of rigging and lift points, use advanced knowledge to identify and attach rigging and understand load dynamics and associated hazards. Crane operators must be at least 18 years of age, and abide by NCCCO’s substance abuse policy. Candidates must pass a practical exam and a written exam.

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is an intermediate-level credential for professionals who support workplace safety practices. CSPs conduct worksite assessments, determine risk, measure hazards and controls, evaluate risk and hazard control measures, investigate incidents, maintain incident and loss records, and prepare emergency response plans. CSP candidates must meet experiential requirements that relate to the field of workplace safety. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM), Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM) certification demonstrates a professional's ability to handle, manage, or advise others on hazardous materials in a safe and compliant manner. A CHMM may work for a corporation, business, government, or in a related field associated with hazardous materials such as environmental protection, safety, hazmat transportation, or security.  Candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and four years of relevant work experience.  Candidates must also pass a written exam.

The International Facility Management Association (IFMA), Certified Facility Manager (CFM) credential credential sets the industry standard for practicing facility managers and validates a manager’s ability and skill in 11 competencies of the facility management body of knowledge. CFM work varies widely, depending on facility size, industry, purpose, location and whether the CFM manages one or multiple facilities. Candidates must meet a combination of education and experience requirements. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The National Private Truck Council (NPTC), Certified Transportation Professional (CTP) is for professionals with the experience and knowledge to direct and administer a private fleet, traffic, or transportation operation. CPTs understand complex operational and regulatory issues, can identify and evaluate potential costs and savings, and develop systems and practices that best meet transportation objectives and needs. CTPs demonstrate knowledge in the areas of finance, operations, safety, human resources, and vehicle and equipment maintenance. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification is an intermediate, managerial credential developed for professionals who demonstrate competency and work part-time or full-time in supervisory positions with tasks devoted to the prevention of harm to individuals in the workplace environment. The STS is often sought by safety professionals who are first-line supervisors and managers. STS applicants must have expertise in monitoring worksites for job hazards, helping to ensure regulatory compliance occurs, training employees in safety practices, performing safety-related record keeping, coordinating corrections for safety problems within or among work groups, and communicating with safety specialists or management. Applicants must pass a written examination.

The United States Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is for individuals who drive certain Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs). There are three classes of CDLs with endorsements for specialized qualifications for vehicles like school buses, tank trucks, and tractor trailers. The U.S. Department of Transportation requires drivers to obtain and hold a CDL if they operate in interstate, intrastate, or foreign commerce and drive a vehicle that meets one or more of the classifications of a CMV described on the FMSCA website. FMSCA has developed and issued standards for state testing and licensing of CDL holders. These standards require state governments to issue CDLs to certain CMV drivers only after the driver passes knowledge and skills testing that is administered by the state and related to the type of vehicle the driver expects to operate.

The United States Department of Transportation (FMCSA), Hazardous Material Endorsement (H) is a credential that may be obtained by individuals who are commercial driver's license (CDL) holders. The Hazardous Material Endorsement (H) permits the professional truck driver to transport hazardous materials (HAZMAT); the endorsement is required to legally transport hazardous material. To earn the Hazardous Material Endorsement (H), candidates are required to be CDL holders, be a U.S. citizen or able to provide proof of legal status in the United States, be of legal age to operate a HAZMAT vehicle, willing to complete the TSA background check and to pass this check plus additional background checks. Candidates must complete a medical screening and pass the written exam.

Renewal Period: 5 years

The Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC), The Certified Logistics Technician (CLTAE)recognizes individuals who demonstrate mastery of the core competencies of material handling at the front-line (entry-level through front-line supervisor). The goal of the CLTAE is to raise the level of performance of logistics workers both to assist the individuals in finding higher-wage jobs. The CLTAE consists of two parts: the foundational-level Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) certificate and the mid-level technical CLT certification. Before taking the CLTAE assessment, candidates must have a CLA certificate. MSSC strongly recommends that individuals be at an 8th-grade math and 10th-grade reading level.

The Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC), Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) is a foundational-level certificate and is a prerequisite for the Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) certification. MSSC training and assessment addresses the need for employability and academic skills as well as technical skills. There are no experiential or hands-on requirements for MSSC certification as it is expected that individual employers will determine those requirements based upon their own specific needs. MSSC evaluates basic computer, analytical and problem-solving skills. Critical work functions and their related key activities for the CLA include: global supply chain logistics life cycle, logistics environment, material handling equipment, safety principles, safe material handling and equipment operation, quality control principles, workplace communications, teamwork and workplace behavior to solve problems, and using computers. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM), Certified Dangerous Goods Professional (CDGP) is an advanced certification that recognizes expertise in dealing with the safe, secure, and compliant transportation of dangerous goods internationally under the model regulations published by the United Nations, International Maritime Organization, International Civil Aviation Organization, and International Air Transport Association. The CDGP is an unbiased verification that a company employs a global expert that can help the employer demonstrate to suppliers, customers, and enforcement agencies that they excel at regulatory compliance and safety. Applicants must have five years of relevant experience and pass a written exam.

The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), Boom Truck Fixed Cab Operator (BTF) certification attests to the knowledge and proficiency required for the safe operation of cranes. The Boom Truck—Fixed Cab Operator certification is a subcategory of the CCO Telescopic Boom—Fixed Cab (TSS) certification and was developed specifically for the industries that use these machines. Boom Truck Fixed Cab Operators lift, lower, and swing loads at various radii, requiring the use of outriggers/stabilizers. Candidates must pass a practical and written exam.

The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), Service Truck Crane Operator (STC) certification validates a crane operator’s skills. Service truck cranes are a subcategory of the Telescopic Boom-Fixed Cab (TSS) certification and typically have shorter boom lengths and lower capacities and functions are typically accomplished via a winch. The Telescopic Boom – Fixed Cab Operator (TSS) and Boom Truck –Fixed Cab (BTF) certifications cover service truck cranes. Service Truck Crane Operators who currently hold a TSS or BTF certification are not required to also hold the Service Truck Crane Operator certification. Other candidates must pass a written and a practical exam.
