MOS 68X Behavioral Health Specialist

MOS Description

The behavioral health specialist, under the supervision of a psychiatrist, social worker, psychiatric nurse, psychologist, assists with the management and treatment in/out patient mental health activities, during peace time or mobilization; collects and records psychosocial and physical data; counsels and treats clients/patients with personal, behavioral or mental health problems. Continuing Education

Enlisted Soldiers and Warrant Officers can review Associate and Bachelor degrees in their assigned military discipline, technical field, or leadership to assist in a clear pathway to completing a degree.

Renewal Period: 3 years

The BACB Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is an intermediate-level certification for individuals who conduct professional behavior analysis. BCBAs are independent practitioners who provide behavior-analytic services. In addition, BCBAs supervise the work of Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts, Registered Behavior Technicians, and others who implement behavior-analytic interventions.

Renewal Period: 1 year

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is an entry-level behavior-analytic certification. The RBT is recommended for paraprofessionals who practice under the close, ongoing supervision of an individual who has earned an advanced Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) credential (such as the BCBA or BCaBA). The RBT is primarily responsible for the direct implementation of behavior-analytic services.

The Qualified Applied Behavior Analysis Credentialing Board, Applied Behavior Analysis Technician (ABAT) is an entry-level certification for behavior technicians. Individuals who hold the ABAT credential practice under the ongoing supervision of a licensed or certified professional within the scope of Applied Behavior Analysis. The ABAT has a working knowledge of autism and related disorders as well as the principles of working with individuals diagnosed with autism and related disorders. The ABAT implements the treatment plan including the mechanisms and strategies of effectively supporting individuals to learn new behaviors and skills. Candidates for the ABAT credential must meet educational, training, and experiential requirements and must pass an exam.

High

Highly attainable: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement = HS or less and/or minimum experience = 2 years or less experience and no additional requirements.

Medium

Moderate ease of attainment: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement = Associate's and/or prerequisite and/or minimum experience = more than 2 years and less than 10 years of experience.

Low

May be difficult to attain: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement is a Bachelor's degree, and/or minimum experience is 10 or more years.

Most – Tasks in these careers match most duties of the military job or specialty (approximately 80% or greater)
Some – Tasks in these careers match some duties of the military job or specialty (greater than 20% but less than 80%)
