MOS 68Q Pharmacy Specialist

MOS Description

The pharmacy specialist prepares, controls, and issues pharmaceutical products under the supervision of a pharmacist or physician, or supervises pharmacy activities. MOS 68Q personnel require finger dexterity in both hands. For more information on MOS 68Q, see this Army website.

The National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS) is an entry-level certification for allied healthcare professionals with work responsibilities that involve securing and assuring complete and accurate patient care data. CEHRS' audit patient records for compliance, abstract clinical information for reports, perform basic coding to submit reimbursement claims, process Release of Information (ROI) requests for medical records, and support a variety of other health record-related activities. Applicants are required to meet education and experience requirements and must pass a written exam.

Renewal Period: 1 year

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT) certification is for PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technicians (CPhTs) who possess knowledge and skill as a specialized pharmacy technician as well as commitment to ensuring medication safety. To earn the CSPT certification, applicants must be an active PTCB CPhT in good standing and either have completed three years of continuous compounded sterile preparation (CSP) work experience or have completed or be currently enrolled in a PTCB-recognized sterile compounding training program and have one year of full-time CSP work experience. Applicants must also provide a Competency Attestation Form from a qualified supervisor and pass a written exam.

Renewal Period: 2 years

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB-CPhT) certification is for technicians who work with pharmacists to deliver safe and effective patient care in a variety of settings, including community pharmacies, hospitals, and other facilities. PTCB-CPhTs typically support the medication dispensing process, however, the legal scope of practice is defined by individual State Boards of Pharmacy. To achieve the PTCB-CPhT certification, applicants must have completed a PTCB-recognized education/training program or have equivalent work experience as a pharmacy technician (minimum 500 hours). Applicants must also pass a written exam.

Renewal Period: 2 years

The National Healthcare Association (NHA), Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) is an entry-level certification for professionals who support licensed pharmacists by providing medication and other healthcare products to patients. Tasks commonly performed by CPhTs include measuring medication amounts, packaging and labeling prescriptions, establishing and maintaining patient records, accepting payment for prescriptions, processing insurance claims, and managing inventory. Applicants must meet education, experience and/or training requirements. Applicants must pass a written exam.

Highly attainable: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement = HS or less and/or minimum experience = 2 years or less experience and no additional requirements.

Medium

Moderate ease of attainment: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement = Associate's and/or prerequisite and/or minimum experience = more than 2 years and less than 10 years of experience.

Low

May be difficult to attain: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement is a Bachelor's degree, and/or minimum experience is 10 or more years.
