ASI 5W Jumpmaster

ASI Description

Army ASI 5W – Jumpmaster is awarded to Soldiers who completed an accredited Jumpmaster Course, conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army Infantry School (USAIS), Fort Benning, GA. 5W is awarded to Soldiers in any MOS in the grade of SGT or above. The Jumpmaster Course required for 5W trains personnel in the skills necessary to jumpmaster a combat-equipped jump and the proper attaching, jumping, and releasing of combat and individual equipment while participating in an actual jump that is proficient in the duties and responsibilities of the Jumpmaster and Safety; procedures for rigging individual equipment containers and door bundles; personnel parachute components by their specific nomenclature and characteristics; procedures and standards required to conduct a Jumpmaster personnel inspection (JMPI); the duties and responsibilities of the Drop Zone Safety Officer; the presentation of the Jumpmaster briefing and sustained airborne training (SAT); and the execution of the duties of a Jumpmaster and Safety from a USAF aircraft during a day/night combat equipment jump.

Continuing Education

Enlisted Soldiers and Warrant Officers can review Associate and Bachelor degrees in their assigned military discipline, technical field, or leadership to assist in a clear pathway to completing a degree.

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is an intermediate-level credential for professionals who support workplace safety practices. CSPs conduct worksite assessments, determine risk, measure hazards and controls, evaluate risk and hazard control measures, investigate incidents, maintain incident and loss records, and prepare emergency response plans. CSP candidates must meet experiential requirements that relate to the field of workplace safety. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Certified Environmental, Safety & Health Trainer (CET) is a certification held by those with experience and expertise in developing, designing, and delivering safety, health and environmental (SH&E) training. The CET measures an individual's knowledge of the theory and practice of basic adult education and confirms knowledge and experience in the SH&E specialty area(s) in which they teach. To qualify for the CET, candidates must hold a BCSP-approved SH&E credential and meet experiential requirements pertaining to teaching or training SH&E. Candidates are also required to pass the CET exam.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Master Parachute Rigger is an upper-level certification. Master Parachute Riggers perform major repairs and alterations on the reserve and harness-and-container system within manufacturers' guidelines on parachutes for which he/she is rated for. The Master Parachute Rigger certification has four type ratings: seat; back; chest; and lap. Master Parachute Riggers also supervise other persons in packing, maintaining, or altering any type of parachute for which the certificated parachute rigger is rated for. Candidates must meet FAA's age, experience, knowledge, and skill requirements to be eligible for the exam. Candidates must pass a written, oral, and practical exam.

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification is an intermediate, managerial credential developed for professionals who demonstrate competency and work part-time or full-time in supervisory positions with tasks devoted to the prevention of harm to individuals in the workplace environment. The STS is often sought by safety professionals who are first-line supervisors and managers. STS applicants must have expertise in monitoring worksites for job hazards, helping to ensure regulatory compliance occurs, training employees in safety practices, performing safety-related record keeping, coordinating corrections for safety problems within or among work groups, and communicating with safety specialists or management. Applicants must pass a written examination.

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification validates an individual's knowledge and experience in the safety profession. ASP certifies an individual's ability to perform at least 50% of professional-level safety duties in safety, health, environment, and ergonomics. Safety professionals are required to make worksite assessments to determine risks, potential hazards and controls, evaluate risks and hazard control measures for equipment, systems, facilities, and processes, investigate incidents, maintain and evaluate incident and loss records, and prepare emergency response plans. ASP candidates must meet a combination of education and experience requirements. Candidates must take a written exam.

The Institute for Safety and Health Management (ISHM), Certified Safety Management Practitioner (CSMP) is an intermediate-level credential for professionals with occupational safety and health management responsibilities. CSMPs have working knowledge of business issues and principles as well as understanding of safety related issues such as hazard analysis, accident investigation, safety audits, workers comp, product safety, environmental laws, labor relations, and more. Candidates must meet academic and experience requirements to be eligible for the CSMP credential. Candidates must pass a written exam.

Renewal Period: 5 years

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Safety Management Specialists (SMS) certification provides a candidate with management skills required for a business's safe operation. SMS candidates define and utilize an organization's safety management systems; risk management; incident investigation and emergency preparedness; maintain current knowledge of safety, health and environmental (SH&E) concepts; and identify the business case for safety. Candidates must meet the minimum work qualifications of either part-time or full-time in an occupational health or safety (at least 35% of the job tasks related to management of safety related programs, processes, procedures, and/or personnel). Candidate's must must pass a written exam.

High

Highly attainable: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement = HS or less and/or minimum experience = 2 years or less experience and no additional requirements.

Medium

Moderate ease of attainment: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement = Associate's and/or prerequisite and/or minimum experience = more than 2 years and less than 10 years of experience.

Low

May be difficult to attain: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement is a Bachelor's degree, and/or minimum experience is 10 or more years.
