MOS 42A Human Resources Specialist

MOS Description

The human resources specialist supervises or performs personnel and administrative functions in support of company, battery, troop; detachments at division, corps, and echelons above corps; in brigade and battalion S1's or in other similar organizations, activities and units; and advises the commander, the staff, and unit soldiers on human resource matters. The human resources specialist also participates in occupational classification and management of human resources or supervises personnel management of human resources or supervises personnel management activities to include maintaining officer and enlisted personnel records and processing personnel actions concerning soldiers and their families. Continuing Education

Enlisted Soldiers and Warrant Officers can review Associate and Bachelor degrees in their assigned military discipline, technical field, or leadership to assist in a clear pathway to completing a degree.

SPHR candidates possess mastery of the strategic and policy-making aspects of HR management as practiced in the U.S., such as accountability for HR department goals, breadth and depth of knowledge in all HR disciplines, and understanding business issues beyond the HR function. Candidates must meet a combination of experience and education requirements and pass a written exam.

The Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI), Associate Professional in Human Resources (aPHR) is an entry-level HR credential. Candidates should have foundational knowledge of HR operations, recruitment and selection, benefits and compensation, human resource development and retention, employee relations, and health, safety and security. Candidates must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. Candidates must take a written examination.

The Institute of Certified Records Managers (ICRM), Certified Records Manager (CRM) credential provides a strong foundation of competencies and core skills for professional responsible for the management of records. CRMs, who are skilled in general management, must demonstrate a understanding of all aspects of records management, including creation, storage and disposition, management, and control, using recordkeeping technologies. Candidates must pass a written exam. In addition, candidates must write two business case studies that demonstrate their ability to apply and convey their knowledge to upper management, clients, and other constituents.

The Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI), Professional in Human Resources - California (PHRca) candidate must demonstrate mastery of the laws, regulations and HR management practices unique to the state of California. The PHRca certification is for candidates currently practicing human resources in California.  Candidate does not have to live in California to obtain the PHRca certification.  Candidate may add the PHRca certification to other HRCI credentials.  Candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of having at least four years of professional-level experience in a HR position and a high school diploma; have at least two years of a professional level HR position with a bachelor's degree; or have at least one year of experience in a professional-level HR position with a master's degree or higher.  Candidate must pass a written exam.

Low

May be difficult to attain: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement is a Bachelor's degree, and/or minimum experience is 10 or more years.
