MOS Description

Multichannel transmission systems operator-maintainer supervise, install, operate, and perform unit level maintenance on multichannel line-of-site and tropospheric scatter communications systems, communications security (COMSEC) devices, and associated equipment. Operates and performs preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on assigned vehicles. Installs, operates, and performs PMCS on power generators. The Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I), Associate Electronics Technician (CETa) is an entry-level certification for technicians who have less than two years of experience or training in electronics. Associate Electronics Technicians demonstrate knowledge of basic electronic theory and applications used in all electronic disciplines including circuits, test equipment, electrical theory, work procedures and telecommunications fundamentals. The CETa is the foundation for ETA’s journeyman, senior, and master specialty, and master certification programs. CETa applicants must meet the experience or training requirement and pass a written exam. An optional practical exam is offered.

The Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I), Certified Satellite Installer (CSI) credential is for professionals who install satellites, and encompasses a wide range of nonbrand-specific hardware and broadcast technologies. CSIs demonstrate knowledge of satellite communications history and theory, satellite dish reflectors, transmission-internet systems, amplifiers, cabling, satellite dish feed-horns—LNBs & LNBFs, Satellite System Installation-site surveys, satellite receivers-digital technology, interfacing with other consumer electronics equipment, troubleshooting, repairs, sun outage, safety, and related information. Candidates must pass a written exam. In addition, candidates may select to take any or all of the following four CSI Endorsement exams: Antenna, C and KU Band, Commercial and SMATV.

The Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I), Telecommunications Electronics Technician (TCM) is an intermediate-level technician credential for professionals who work in the telecommunications field. TCMs demonstate knowledge of wired and wireless communications basic concepts, applicable to various types of voice, data and video systems. TCM must have knowledge in Cables and Cabling, Analog Telephony, Equipment, Telecom Safety and Mathematics, Transmission Service Providers and Protocols, Distribution Methods, Computer, Digital Telephony, Interfacing, Internet, Network Infrastructures and Topologies, Office Wiring, Wireless Telephony, Test Equipment, Optical Wiring, and Troubleshooting. Candidates must pass a written exam. Candidates that hold a Standalone TCM and later complete the Associate CET (CETa), are eligible to upgrade to a Journeyman CET.

The CompTIA A+ ce certification demonstrates competency as a computer support technician. The A+ ce certification is appropriate for entry-level technicians who perform tasks such as installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking. Security, safety and environmental issues, and communication and professionalism are also covered. It is recommended, although not required, that candidates have nine to twelve months of related hands-on experience as an IT professional.

CBREs operate, maintain, update and repair hardware and systems used across radio, podcasts and other channels, ensuring that programs are broadcast on-time at the highest level of quality. Broadcast engineers work in teams; other professionals on a team include producers, studio managers, presenters, and technical staff. The candidate for Certified Broadcast Radio Engineer must have five (5) years of suitable experience in broadcast engineering or related technology and must pass an exam.

Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), Network+ ce is an intermediate skill level certification for IT technicians who can describe the features and functions of networking components and manage, maintain, troubleshoot, install, operate and configure basic network infrastructure. In addition, certification holders have a basic understanding of enterprise technologies, including cloud and virtualization technologies. Network+ ce is appropriate for computer network technicians, engineers, analysts and administrators. Although not a prerequisite, it is recommended that CompTIA Network+ ce candidates have at least nine months of experience in network support or administration or academic training, along with a CompTIA A+ ce certification.

(ISC 2), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) is an advanced skill level certification for experienced security practitioners, managers and executives interested in proving their knowledge across a wide array of security practices and principles. Candidates must have a minimum of five years cumulative paid work experience in two or more of the eight domains of the CISSP CBK. Earning a four-year college degree or regional equivalent or an additional credential from the (ISC)² approved list will satisfy one year of the required experience. The Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I), Wireless Communications Electronics Technician (WCM) certification is a journeyman-level credential for wireless technicians. The WCM certification is targeted toward professionals performing installation, maintenance and repair of mobile and fixed radio communications systems. Candidates seeking the ETA-I WCM credential are required to have a basic education in fundamental electronics and must pass the Associate (CETa) exam before qualifying to sit for the Journeyman level certification exam. However, candidates who hold a valid FCC GROL and either an ETA-I Associate CET (CETa), General Communications Technician - Level 1 (GCT1) or Journeyman CET certification are eligible to rollover to an ETA-I Wireless Communications (WCM) certification.

The SSCP is targeted toward those working towards positions such as Network Security Engineers, Security Systems Analysts, or Security Administrators. It is also appropriate for personnel in other non-security disciplines that require an understanding of security but do not have information security as a primary part of their job description, including information systems auditors; application programmers; system, network and database administrators; business unit representatives, and systems analysts. Candidates must meet work experienve requirements to be eligible for the SSCP exam. Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), Security+ ce certification designates knowledgeable professionals in the field of IT security. Security+ ce is an entry-level certification that demonstrates a candidates knowledge and skills required to install and configure systems to secure applications, networks, and devices; perform threat analysis and respond with appropriate mitigation techniques; participate in risk mitigation activities; and operate with an awareness of applicable policies, laws, and regulations. The successful candidate will perform these tasks to support the principles of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. It is recommended that candidates hold the Network+ and two years of experience in IT administration with a security focus.

The Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC), Security Leadership Certification (GSLC) is an advanced skill level certification for information security, information technology and security professionals with leadership responsibilities. GSLCs display knowledge of data, network, host, application, and user controls along with fundamental management topics that pertain to the security lifecycle. The Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) is an advanced certification for the individual who designs, builds, and manages an enterprises information security. CISM focuses on information risk management as the basis of information security. This certification is targeted toward experienced information security managers and those who have information security management responsibilities. Five or more years of information security work experience, with a minimum of three years of information security management work experience is required.

The Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-1), Line and Antenna Sweep (LAS) is a frequency domain reflectometer (FDR) certification. Line and Antenna Sweep candidates must demonstrate knowledge of antenna system commissioning, radio frequency fundamentals, mathematics, coaxial cable fundamentals and installation, RF connectors, antennas, troubleshooting, and frequency domain reflectometer testing, test interpretation and operation. The LAS is a stand-alone certification but may be upgraded to a Journeyman CET by meeting additional requirements. Candidates must pass a written exam and a hands-on skills exam.

The Society of Broadcast Engineers, Inc (SBE), Certified AM Directional Specialist is an intermediate-level credential. SBE Specialist crtifications require that candidates hold an SBE Engineer certification- the Broadcast Engineer, Senior Broadcast Engineer or Professional Broadcast Engineer Certification. The AM Directional Specialist certification evaluated an individual's ability to perform the necessary tasks to keep facilities operating properly. Candidates must have knowledge of AM radiators, understanding of the principles of phase addition and cancellation, familiarity with the various components used in a directional antenna system, and ability to correctly make necessary measurements and take proper procedures to make repairs and adjustments to the system. AXELOS, ITIL Foundation certification is an entry level certification which offers candidates a general awareness of the key elements, concepts, and terminology used in the ITIL service lifecycle, including the links between lifecycle stages, the processes used, and their contribution to service management practice. The Electronics Technicians Association, International (ETA-I), General Communications Technician Level 1 (GCT1) certification is an entry-level credential designed to cover the many areas encountered by radio communications technicians or engineers in the public safety communications or business/commercial radio field. The GCT1 certification is modeled after wide-ranging industry communication systems encompassing more specific detailed items along with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) guidelines covering all disciplines in the COMT program. The CompTIA, Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+) uses continuous security monitoring to apply behavioral analytics to devices and networks to prevent, detect and combat cybersecurity threats. CySA+ certification validates that the professional has the knowledge and skills required to  leverage threat detection techniques and intelligence, find and address vulnerabilities, analyze and interpret data, recommend preventative actions, and successfully respond to and recover from incidents. While there is no required prerequisite, CySA+ is intended to follow CompTIA Security+ or equivalent experience and has a technical, hands-on focus. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The CompTIA IT Fundamentals (ITF+) certification is an entry level certification for those beginning a career in the field of information technology (IT) or those in a field where a general knowledge of IT is necessary.  To earn the certification, candidates must pass one exam covering foundational IT concepts such as understanding the basics of computing, IT infrastructure, software development, and database use. There are no experience requirements that must be met prior to taking the exam.

Cisco Systems, Inc., Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is an entry-level certification for associate-level jobs in the IT industry.  Updated in 2020, the CCNA program covers a broad range of fundamental concepts including network fundamentals, security, and automation and programmability.  Although there are no formal experience or education prerequisites, a candidate is recommended to have one or more years experience implementing and administering Cisco solutions as well as an understanding of basic IP addressing and network fundamentals.

Cisco Systems, Inc., Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Enterprise is an intermediate-level certification for networking professionals.  The CCNP Enterprise certification program is designed to validate skills in core enterprise technologies and provide an opportunity to select a focus on emerging and industry specific topics.  To earn the CCNA Enterprise certification, candidates must pass a core exam and a concentration exam of their choosing.  The core exam focuses on knowledge of enterprise infrastructure including architecture, visualization, network assurance, security and automation.  While there are no prerequisites, candidates are recommended to have three to five years of experience implementing enterprise networking solutions.

Moderate ease of attainment: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement = Associate's and/or prerequisite and/or minimum experience = more than 2 years and less than 10 years of experience.

Low

May be difficult to attain: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement is a Bachelor's degree, and/or minimum experience is 10 or more years.
