ASI Description

Plans integrate and coordinate knowledge management operations across the spectrum of military operations. Provides for the integration and management of Army Battle Command Systems to optimize situational understanding and effective collaboration.

In addition to obtaining certifications in your field, advanced education is another way to enhance job performance.

Continuing Education

Enlisted Soldiers and Warrant Officers can review Associate and Bachelor degrees in their assigned military discipline, technical field, or leadership to assist in a clear pathway to completing a degree.

The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), A+ certification validates the entry-level computer technician's competency to perform a myriad of critical IT support tasks. CompTIA A+ technicians demonstrate skills in networking, hardware, virtualization and cloud computing, network and software troubleshooting, installing and configuring operating systems, security, and operational procedures. Candidates must pass both the Core 1 (220-1001) and Core 2 (220-1002) exams.

The Project Management Institute (PMI), Project Management Professional (PMP) is an advanced skill level credential for professionals who lead and direct projects. PMPs demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead, and an understanding of technical processes and the business environment. The Project Management Institute (PMI), Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) is an entry-level certification for project practitioners and project team members who wish to demonstrate the knowledge of project management. Designed for those with less project experience, the CAPM demonstrates an understanding of the fundamental knowledge, terminology and processes of effective project management such as initiation, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, closing, and professional and social responsibility. Candidates must meet educational requirements. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The Project Management Institute (PMI), Program Management Professional (PgMP) is an advanced career certification for professionals who oversee multiple, related projects and their resources to achieve strategic business goals. PgMPs are senior-level practitioners who identify ways to group multiple related projects to achieve benefits that may not be realized if the projects were managed in a stand-alone fashion. Candidates for the PgMP must meet educational and experiential requirements; they are also evaluated by both a panel and with an exam.

Renewal Period: Lifetime

The Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) certification is an entry-level certification designed to help individuals take the first step toward a career as an IT professional or developer. Students, those changing careers or just starting, or those exploring a technology career are best suited towards earning an MTA certification. The next step in the Microsoft certification path is Microsoft Technology Specialist (MCTS), which requires hands-on experience with the Microsoft technology platform. There are a number of MTA exams available in the area of IT infrastructure, database or developer. Passing one exam earns the MTA certification.

Note that individuals who already have an in-depth understanding of and hands-on experience with Microsoft technologies, might want to start with a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification or one of the Professional Series tracks. Please review the VA website to check which Microsoft exams in this certification track are eligible for GI Bill reimbursement.

The Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM), Certified Information Professional (CIP) is an intermediate level certification that demonstrates knowledge in the field of content and information management. Certified Information Professionals have skills and knowledge in the five domains of intelligent information management: creating and capturing information, extracting intelligence from information, digitalizing information-intensive processes, automating governance and compliance, and implementing an information management solution. There are no formal education or experience requirements associated with this certification, but AIIM recommends that candidates have some relevant experience and/or education in the intelligent information management field. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) is an advanced career level credential for professionals with management responsibilities. CIPMs use the privacy program operational lifecycle to understand and apply privacy and data protection practices in the development, measurement, and improvement of privacy programs. The CIPM certifies subject matter expertise in organizational-level privacy program governance, development, implementation and measurement of privacy program frameworks. CIPMs support the application of privacy from access, protection, and sustainment, to response. There are no experiential or educational requirements for earning the CIPM; IAPP recommends that those pursuing the CIPM certification prepare for the exam.

The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) is an intermediate-level IT security credential. The CIPT is intended for IT professionals who are responsible for the development, engineering, deployment, or auditing of IT products and services. Earning the CIPT credential demonstrates knowledge of privacy-related issues and practices in the context of the design and implementation of information and communication technologies. There are no experiential or educational requirements for earning the CIPT; IAPP recommends that those pursuing the CIPT certification prepare for the exam.

The CompTIA IT Fundamentals (ITF+) certification is an entry level certification for those beginning a career in the field of information technology (IT) or those in a field where a general knowledge of IT is necessary.  To earn the certification, candidates must pass one exam covering foundational IT concepts such as understanding the basics of computing, IT infrastructure, software development, and database use. There are no experience requirements that must be met prior to taking the exam.
