MOS 19Z Armor Senior Sergeant

MOS Description

The armor senior sergeant serves as principal NCO in armor company, cavalry troop, or operations and intelligence staff sections in armor battalion, cavalry squadron, or higher level organizations. Plans, coordinates, and supervises activities pertaining to organization, training, combat operations, and combat intelligence. Supervises operations center at battalion and higher level units. Collects, interprets, analyzes, evaluates, and disseminates intelligence information and data. Edits and prepares tactical operations plans and orders. Coordinates implementation of operations, training programs, and communications activities.

Continuing Education

Enlisted Soldiers and Warrant Officers can review Associate and Bachelor degrees in their assigned military discipline, technical field, or leadership to assist in a clear pathway to completing a degree.

CSPs conduct worksite assessments, determine risk, measure hazards and controls, evaluate risk and hazard control measures, investigate incidents, maintain incident and loss records, and prepare emergency response plans. CSP candidates must meet experiential requirements that relate to the field of workplace safety. Candidates must pass a written exam.

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification is an intermediate, managerial credential developed for professionals who demonstrate competency and work part-time or full-time in supervisory positions with tasks devoted to the prevention of harm to individuals in the workplace environment. The STS is often sought by safety professionals who are first-line supervisors and managers. STS applicants must have expertise in monitoring worksites for job hazards, helping to ensure regulatory compliance occurs, training employees in safety practices, performing safety-related record keeping, coordinating corrections for safety problems within or among work groups, and communicating with safety specialists or management. Applicants must pass a written examination.

The Association of Equipment Management Professionals, Certified Equipment Manager (CEM) is a professional credential for managers of off-road heavy equipment fleets or managers of municipal government fleets. Equipment managers with five years or more of experience who meet the CEM requisites may apply by completing the CEM application.

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification validates an individual's knowledge and experience in the safety profession. ASP certifies an individual's ability to perform at least 50% of professional-level safety duties in safety, health, environment, and ergonomics. Safety professionals are required to make worksite assessments to determine risks, potential hazards and controls, evaluate risks and hazard control measures for equipment, systems, facilities, and processes, investigate incidents, maintain and evaluate incident and loss records, and prepare emergency response plans. ASP candidates must meet a combination of education and experience requirements. Candidates must take a written exam.

The Association for Strategic Planning (ASP) Strategic Planning Professional Level I certification is for candidates that wish to bring together the latest strategic thinking concepts, strategic planning techniques and Balanced Scorecard best-practices. Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy. It may also extend to control mechanisms for guiding the implementation of the strategy. Candidates must be a college graduate or have or 5 years' work experience in strategic planning or related field with a minimum of 2 years in an internal planning role or as a junior external planning consultant.

The Association for Strategic Planning (ASP), Strategic Management Professional Level II certification is for candidates who manage and use a comprehensive collection of ongoing activities and processes that organizations use to systematically coordinate and align resources and actions with mission, vision and strategy throughout an organization.  Candidates must be a college graduate or have or 10 years' work experience in strategic planning or related field with a minimum of 5 years as an experienced internal Executive or external Consultant leading multiple Strategic Planning assignments. Candidates must also hold a Strategic Planning Professional certification or meets all of its requirements.

Renewal Period: 5 years

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Safety Management Specialists (SMS) certification provides a candidate with management skills required for a business's safe operation. SMS candidates define and utilize an organization's safety management systems; risk management; incident investigation and emergency preparedness; maintain current knowledge of safety, health and environmental (SH&E) concepts; and identify the business case for safety. Candidates must meet the minimum work qualifications of either part-time or full-time in an occupational health or safety (at least 35% of the job tasks related to management of safety related programs, processes, procedures, and/or personnel). Candidate's must must pass a written exam.

Highly attainable: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement = HS or less and/or minimum experience = 2 years or less experience and no additional requirements.

Medium

Moderate ease of attainment: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement = Associate's and/or prerequisite and/or minimum experience = more than 2 years and less than 10 years of experience.

Low

May be difficult to attain: Credential is related to the duties performed within the military occupation, the minimum education requirement is a Bachelor's degree, and/or minimum experience is 10 or more years.
